Springfield police are investigating a report that a child was sexually assaulted by a 1-year-old, the latest of a string of similar incidents that have plagued the suburb.
Police were called to the home of the victim on Thursday night after reports that the boy had been sexually assaulted.
A child protective service worker was notified and the child was taken to a local hospital.
A police spokesperson said investigators are looking into the incident, but said the victim is not cooperating.
Police did not release a description of the suspect, citing the investigation.
In the wake of the sexual assault, police say the suspect will be placed under surveillance and has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
The child’s father is not at home and his name has not been released.
